a hit of spring and a new hobby

i was running through target the other day and decided i needed new nail polish.  i had a bottle of pale pink at home, but i haven’t been able to get the lid off for about a year, so i figured it was time to move on.  i snagged this one up – literally.  anyone who has shopped with a toddler knows that you must keep the cart moving at all times.  commit, and move on.  i did, and i like this color very much.  mostly, because when it starts to chip, you don’t really notice, and i can’t keep a manicure pretty for longer than 48 hours.

in other news, beckett has totally gotten into cars.  it’s hilarious to me because he has a few cars, but we’ve never made a big deal about them.  i would love to know what’s going on in that little head of his.  he carries his cars around the house, makes them go ‘vroom’ on the floor, and most recently, wants to stand at the front windows and watch for cars coming down the street and then exclaim car!  car!  it’s pretty darn cute.

motivation…or the lack thereof

i am finding it very hard to be productive.  after being sick last weekend, i’m finding that the energy-suck that sickness brings is hanging around.  or maybe it’s that i spent the morning chasing the short guy around monkey bizness – a must-do if you want to wear your kiddo out.  b was pink-faced and sweating by the time i finally had to drag him out of there.

so, instead of a real post, i’ll leave you with a few pretty pictures.  and maybe you can tell me:  what do you do to kick yourself back into gear?

{holy beading!}

if you told me 10 years ago that i would love gold now, i would have slapped you in the face.  but now, i totally want this pendant to come live in my house.

{why didn’t i get the invite for this party?}

{peplum for your arms – love!}

{what a great kid’s room.  get a load of that art!}

madewell

welcome to kc!  i was so happy to see that madewell is setting up camp at town center plaza.  they don’t have that many stores, so kc is pretty lucky to be getting one.  yay for us!  they’re owned by j. crew, and i can’t walk by one of those without stepping in, so i’m excited for madewell to open up shop.

they’ve got some fun stuff that’s giving me a little bit of spring fever…or it might be because it’s 70 here today!

shirtdress, tank, bomber jacket, platforms, sandals, ring, tote,

daydreaming

it is beautiful and sunny here today, and tomorrow the high is supposed to be 70!  hello spring!  this weather has me thinking about getting outside and planting a small herb garden.  we had a few small pots of basil last year, and it went crazy, so i’m ready to take it up a notch this summer.  i’m not quite ready for the commitment of a full-on garden, so i’m going to go with a large planter like the one below.  so looking forward to having fresh basil, rosemary, mint, and thyme at my fingertips!

that day i went a little crazy…

…with chalkboard paint was a good day.

i have had a can of said chalkboard paint for upwards of 2 years now, with plans to paint our fridge downstairs.  it came with the house and was pretty much butt-ugly in it’s original chocolate brown circa 19-seventy-something state.  but, that fridge works like a champ, which is more than i can say for our 2006 kenmore, which is a sorry excuse for a fridge…but i digress.  i popped open that paint, and when i got going i just couldn’t stop.

first was the fridge, which will (after today) more than likely, be labeled ‘beer’, because that’s pretty much all we use it for.  and when i say beer, i mean the 12-pack that we’ve had since october.  forgive the yellow picture – the lighting is not awesome down there.

next was a kiddo table that i got for $5. it had a little frog on the top, and he wasn’t my favorite, so away he went, and now it’s fit for a tea party.

and finally, the pantry.  i’ve already been using it to write down the things we need to add to the shopping list.  i also hope to do a better job at meal planning and plan to write our weekly menu here.

you just gotta love a can of paint.

hooray for hollywood

did you watch the oscars last night?  my favorite moment was cirque du soleil – wow, wow, wow.  also pretty fun was that a fraternity brother of jared’s won the oscar for best documentary – congrats to dan lindsay for undefeated!  we have yet to see it, but have heard that it’s awesome.

in seeing bits and pieces of the red carpet and most of the show, i noticed a few recurring trends.

my nominees for best dressed are rose byrne, michelle williams, and milla jovovich – they were all classic and streamlined, but clearly ready for the oscars.  did you have a favorite?

favorite things: home goods edition

this is the first of what i hope is many installments of a new feature i’m calling favorite things.  i’m starting off with a few things that i love having around the house, and you can expect more on baby stuff, food, clothes, etc.  if you’ve got an idea of something you’d like to see, let me know!
