dapper dan

the weekend before last, we attended a darling ‘bow ties and balloons’ party for one of beckett’s buddies, remington.  the party favors were vintage bow ties, and beckett looked so dang cute that when we got home i had to take some pictures.  here’s our handsome little man all aglow from the light of the christmas tree.

we had some help from daddy to get these smiles.  he was jumping up and down, which beckett thinks is hilarious.  b is working on his jumping too – he lifts up on his tippy-toes and gets the biggest grin on his sweet face.  he’s so proud of himself.  he is also cutting six teeth right now and his handling like a little champ.

his other new trick is telling us what santa says – ‘hoooo’.  he is picking things up so quickly now and doing something new nearly every day.  it is pure joy watching this little boy grow up.

giddy up

well, the short guy begged to be a cowboy this year…or, we had a bunch of left over bandanas from his birthday and a new souvenir cowboy hat brought from the wall drug store.  i can’t remember which.  either way, he made a pretty cute little cowboy last night, even if he wasn’t in the smiling mood for the pictures.  in fact, recently, he’s adopted the ‘stunned’ look for the camera – not ideal, but i’ll take what i can get.  we borrowed some cowboy boots from a friend – thanks anna and remy!  they totally made the outfit, and had him walking like a real cowboy, which had us laughing so hard.  when the actual trick-or-treating started, he was so intrigued and watched each time as we went to the door.  otherwise, it was business as usual playing with his plethora of toys.

happy halloween!

happy halloween to you one and all!  hope you have something really fun planned – be it a wild costume party or handing out candy at your door.  my plans involve the latter and a chipotle burrito bowl, and i must say, i’m pretty excited about it.  i’ll leave you with a picture of our little chipotle burrito from last year.  my, how our little nugget has changed.

isla {newborn}

my good friend colleen asked me to take pictures of her brand new baby last week.  not only is she just beautiful, but she has a really good name too – isla.  isn’t that so pretty?  we had a great time oooing and ahhing over how cute she looked, and i was crawling all over the floor of their new house to get just the right angle on this amazingly adorable face.  thanks colleen, for letting capture a few sweet newborn moments for isla.  here are a few of my favorites from the day.

welcome to the ok corral

the short guy had a birthday this past weekend, and it turned out pretty great.

we started the day with balloons, which were a huge hit…

…a gift from our sweet neighbors (hung on the fence, of course!)…

followed by a huge nap (for beckett, if you were wondering), and then the main event.

it was a cowboy theme.  yee haw!

the birthday boy was a total trooper being the center of attention – better than i would have done!  he loved the present opening…

…but was scared of the cupcake – the complete opposite of what i expected.  apparently, being presented with a foreign dessert and having a room full of people watch your every move while you decide what to do with it is scary.  who woulda thought?

he was soon a fan…

it’s just not a cowboy party without roy!

thanks to our fabulous family for being a part of beckett’s first birthday!  here’s to many more we can share!

dear beckett

it was one year ago today that you arrived and forever changed me.  you made me a mother, something that i had dreamed of becoming.  i have experienced what it feels like to have my heart expand so much that i feel it may burst.  your sweet smile could light up texas, and your joyful laughter is quite possibly the best thing i’ve ever heard.  you are busy and adventuresome, constantly searching for something new to explore, climb, evaluate.  you love to sit and read a book, something i hope you’ll continue for all your days.  you are sweet as can be, telling everyone ‘hi’ wherever we go.  strangers comment on what a cute kid you are, and one lady even said that your smile ‘made her whole day’.  i could say that that’s the way i feel every day.

you have my eyes and your daddy’s mouth, but you are really just beckett – a completely unique little human.  i am working hard to live in the moment with you, enjoying what you can do right now, and at the same time, i’m so very excited to see who you become.

today, and every day, my cup runneth over.

splish splash

as previously mentioned, beckett really likes the bath.  he is one happy camper to get out all his toys and chase them around the tub.  miller likes to drink the water simultaneously, and some might scoff at us, but if you have a dog, you know you have to just get over their slobber, hair, and desire to be rightnexttoyou all the time.  we really tried to keep him from licking beckett, and we still keep it to a minimum, but sometimes you just have to let it go.  we’re just happy they like each other.

an open and shut case

the ‘case’ being my cabinets.  the short guy has figured out how to open them and must think that inside is where magical things await him (unfortunately for him, it’s no narnia, just blankets).  he must have opened and closed this about 967 times today.  amazing the things that can entertain a child.  on that note, i swear that we’re not buying him another toy.  he prefers things like empty water bottles, dvd cases, cell phones and remote controls.  our house is filled with colorful, plastic, made-for-the-short-guy toys, and he will make a b-line for a digital clock any day.

pardon the mess here.  i’m tinkering around with things, and not exactly sure what the heck i’m doing.  stick with me!  now, wave bye-bye to our friends beckett…

have a good weekend!

on the move

we have been doing a lot of baby chasing around here.  the short guy has been doing laps around the house tonight and has been as animated as we’ve ever seen him.  we can no longer blink, as he will be across the room on his way to something not baby-appropriate.  he is developing such a personality, and has turned into a very social, very happy, easy-going little guy.  he smiles and laughs so easily now, and it seems our mission each day is to get him to do as much of both as we can.  he has figured out peek-a-boo, learned to wave, and has added ‘nine-nine-nine’ to his vocabulary (though we can’t tell if he’s counting or speaking german).   he has exhibited some separation anxiety, and those times are no fun (and loud), but i do think it’s getting better.  he is a good little eater, and is beginning to transition to mushed up versions of what we’re eating – current favorite is spaghetti, hates peas.  it really blows my mind how much he is learning and developing right now.  i mean, he was just a sweet ‘baby lump’ a mere 9 months ago.  he is a great kid, and we are so very lucky to call him ours.
