happy halloween!

happy halloween to you one and all!  hope you have something really fun planned – be it a wild costume party or handing out candy at your door.  my plans involve the latter and a chipotle burrito bowl, and i must say, i’m pretty excited about it.  i’ll leave you with a picture of our little chipotle burrito from last year.  my, how our little nugget has changed.

falling for fall

it has only just begun to feel like fall around here (no complaints from me!), so it hadn’t occurred to me to really do any fall decorating yet.  but this week has been cooler and halloween is in 3 days, so i think it’s about time i join the party.   i picked up a dozen pint-sized pumpkins earlier in the week at faulkner’s pumpkin farm, and while i love a nice orange pumpkin, i wanted to dress them up a bit, so off i went to hobby lobby for some gold spray paint.  i sprayed the bottoms first, let them dry for about 15 minutes, then flipped them and did the tops.  i let them dry fully overnight on some parchment paper, and scattered them around the house the next day.  i love they way they look so much that i think i could get in some trouble with my can of gold spray paint.

{here’s our mantle.  i still feel it looks a little bare, but i haven’t come up with anything else to add yet.  if you’ve got an idea, send it my way.  i’m picturing brightly colored ornaments replacing those pumpkins for christmastime. }

happy fall!

these are a few of my favorite things

last night, i went to a ‘favorite things’ party.  i think the idea is brilliant, so i want to share it with you too.  it’s my friend meredith’s idea (kind of – or she read about it somewhere – but she brought it to our group, so i think it’s hers).  here’s the idea:  you buy three of your favorite things (all three the very same) at the agreed upon price point (ours was $5 – $10) and bring them to the party.  once you’re there, you write your name three times on little pieces of paper, and throw it in a bowl.  send the bowl around, and each person draws three names (making sure that your own is not one).  then you go around, each person explains why they love their favorite thing, and the three people whose names you’ve drawn get your favorite thing.  so you walk away with three new things!  it’s fun to see all the different stuff, and who doesn’t like going to a party and getting presents!?!  add food, wine, and good company, and you’re in for a fun night.  here were a few favorite things from last night.  click on each image for more info.

one gal brought pints of ice cream from here (sara, you’re right, the lime is heaven), and another brought cupcakes from here.

i want them all

have you seen this new textile line from caitlin wilson?  yes please, i’ll take all of it.  these would be super-cute in a sophisticated kids room, on a few pillows in your den, or to recover your dining room chairs.

my idea is to give our headboard a face-lift with this one.  the floral would balance well with the more geometric patterns we have happening in there already.

i love me a good chevron, and in the perfect color of greige.

having a green moment with these next two.

all of her stuff is youthful, fresh, and interesting.  check it out.

the century club

i think the century club is some kind of drinking game, but we’ll leave that for the co-eds.  we did make a trip back to college this past weekend, and it was to celebrate a century of mizzou homecomings.  did you know that homecoming started at the university of missouri?  kind of a cool claim to fame i think.  we did a little tailgating (i.e. walked two miles before the game even started) and sat on ‘the hill’ for the game – it always feels good to be back in a sea of black and gold.  the weather was a.m.a.z.i.n.g., we saw lots of our good ol’ pals and even had time for a walk through campus.  it has changed so much since we’ve been there, and i’m jealous of all the cool stuff the students now have.  i’m pretty sure the journalism school has it’s own color printer now – something we did not have when i was there!  seriously – a journalism school without a color printer!?!  anywho, it was a great visit to columbia, and i always leave wishing we had had more time to spend there.

{this guy is serious…about football}

you might think that this scene took place in the wee hours of the morning.  the reality is that we’re old, it was 10.00, and we went back to our hotel right after.  my, how times have changed.

isla {newborn}

my good friend colleen asked me to take pictures of her brand new baby last week.  not only is she just beautiful, but she has a really good name too – isla.  isn’t that so pretty?  we had a great time oooing and ahhing over how cute she looked, and i was crawling all over the floor of their new house to get just the right angle on this amazingly adorable face.  thanks colleen, for letting capture a few sweet newborn moments for isla.  here are a few of my favorites from the day.

style watch: michelle obama

whether you’re republican or democrat, or something entirely different, you can’t deny that michelle obama knows how to dress.  a true class act, she is a master mixer of high and low, and has worn everything from j. crew to jason wu.  here are a few of her more recent style statements…

needles are no fun, but the after party is

this is what we did today.

it was just a routine blood draw – i guess our pediatrician has all 1 year olds do this, which just seems like cruel and unusual punishment – for both baby and mama.  i actually appreciate her thorough approach, but it was still no fun.  thankfully, my (nurse) mom was there to inspect the person who would pull the very blood from my baby, and to provide moral support for me (which i needed)!  the phlebotomist was awesome – she got him on the first stick and was quick.  there was some screaming and crying, but after it was over, beckett made a quick recovery and scored a baby maraca – ole!  all in all he did great, and it was nothing a cupcake and playing in the sink couldn’t fix.
