thoughts {perches, flowers, and tiny feet}

i know i’ve been bad at this blogging gig lately.  it’s been a crazy few weeks, but i hope to be back to regularly scheduled programing next week.  a few random thoughts for today.

we picked up a couple new chairs on our trip to ikea this past weekend, and beckett’s coloring perch got a sweet little upgrade.  i love the shapes of these chairs and that he can climb in and out of them on his own – though he still prefers the chairs at the kitchen table.

my mom has a green thumb, as evidenced here…

and here…

and a sneakity peek into what i got into tonight.  more to come on this little nugget soon.

weekend {in pictures}

what a weekend!  my brother and sister-in-law’s baby decided to make his appearance on friday, so we jumped in the car and headed west.  we never imagined we would make it to denver before the baby arrived.  my super-woman sister-in-law had kind of a marathon labor and delivery, and late on friday, they welcomed the handsome little emmett thomas.  he is healthy and perfect, and we are beyond blessed to add another boy to our family.

{b sported a bow-tie for the occasion – hey, you don’t meet a new cousin every day!}

harrison {age 2}

tera and i went to the same high school here in kansas city.  a few years separated us, so we didn’t really know each other then.  fast forward (a’hem), like 13 years, and here we are, with two little boys just months apart.  i feel like my circle of friends has grown so much since becoming a mama, and i’m so happy to have met tera and her handsome little guy, harrison.

harrison turned 2 this month, and tera had the great idea to turn a photograph into a thank you note.  she had scouted out an old train car (hello every little boys’ dream!), and we had fun chasing harrison around and tricking him into smiling.

this is how the weekend went down…

a great weekend filled with productivity and just enough laziness.  hope yours was a good one too.

on a side note, sorry to my subscribers who got an e-mail about me publishing a post last night.  it was an accident, and that’s what i get for staying up too late and playing on the computer.

blogging from my phone today, really just to see how it works. i’m not technologically gifted by any stretch. a lot on my mind today, so i’m keeping it short.

after hearing some good things, i picked up this book and i’m reading it now. it’s about the differences in child-rearing in the american and french cultures, and it’s pretty good so far. hope to do a full book report for you once I’m finished. :)

glass storage

i kind of have a thing for packaging.  i love beautiful packaging (for example), but i very much dislike ugly packaging (for example).    i feel like a lot of everyday items come in really ugly boxes, bags, or jars, and i just don’t like looking at them.  to solve my stupid little pet peeve, i’ve purchased quite a few glass jars.  that way, i can put our boring everyday stuff in pretty jars, and it’s much easier on the eyes.  do you have a creative idea for solving a pet peeve?  do share!

copycat

a few months ago, i picked up the perfect leather clutch.  it lives in my mama-purse (i.e. cracker, diaper, toy carrier), but when i don’t need to lug around everything-beckett-could-possibly-need-at-a-moment’s-notice, i just pull it out and run,  and it’s a perfectly chic little clutch.  to kick it up a notch, i added a tassel that i made using this tutorial (a quickie $5-10 project).

{american apparel pouch/cara-made tassel}

yesterday, i came across this number, and was quickly reminded of my pouch.  similar, no?  personally, i like mine better, and it was about $50 cheaper.  i think that’s a win.

the short guy woke up early from his nap today (which is when i usually have some time to blog), so i’ll leave you with a few quick shots i took of my friend jessica, whose wedding we attended just 10 days ago.  isn’t she gorgeous?

easter {in pictures}

we had a great day yesterday.  we were with jared’s family, and the weather was so great that we were outside a ton.

first, a family picture.  we usually forget to do this, so i’m really happy that we made it happen.  we’re all even looking at the camera!  with eyes open!  and no gnawing on fingers!  the poor short guy is cutting some molars, and they are giving him a pretty hard time.  he has been constantly chewing on his fingers, not eating a ton, and his nose is like a little river.  hoping that these teeth pop up quickly.

little b played some soccer.  and it’s possible that, while he was sleeping, jared, my sister-in-law heather, and i played a little too.  we kind of felt like kids running around in the backyard barefoot.  unfortunately (or fortunately) no pictures of that.  and get a load of those seersucker pants!  cute, right?

there was a lot of playing with helicopters (or whirlybirds, as some call them)….by all of us.  it was a day to act like children, i guess…and it was pretty fun.

b is working on his poses for senior pictures already.  i think he’s ahead of the game.
