here are a few shots of the short guy from last weekend – 7 months old…sheesh.

anyone who has known me for a while could tell you that i’m a magazine devotee. i’ve even referenced in style as my personal bible. my attention span is short (hence the title of this here blog), and magazines cater to my impairment perfectly, jumping from the shoes of the season to the fabric i have to have in my living room to the greatest mascara (cover girl lash blast, in my humble opinion – the orange tube, ladies!). now, to keep up with the times, i also follow a ton of blogs. see that list over to the right? that’s not even all of them. i think it’s kind of awesome that just anybody with a few thoughts can start writing and other people will read those thoughts and maybe even comment on them – whoa! i think the world just got a little smaller, and i love that. hugs all around. see, technology isn’t going to be the demise of our generation….well, probably…it’s bringing people together that would have never kept in touch or maybe even met. pretty darn cool. i love getting to take a little peek into other people’s lives, getting a bit of inspiration from their home, picking up a new way to photograph or put an outfit together. so thank you, bloggers, i like what you’re doin’ and you should keep doin’ it. (no, i’m not giving myself a pat on the back here – i know i’ve got work to do) my new favorites are: amber interiors, kendi everyday, and catherine clay photography. my longtime faves are: bryn alexandra, dear baby, and little green notebook. if you have an interest in interior design, fashion, or photography, you should check these out.
heck, i really didn’t set out to write a blog on blogs, but that’s where it went. my point today was actually to show you the stack of magazines i’ve been neglecting. (sad face) yes, there’s one in there from november – don’t judge. i’ll get to them one of these days.
we had an incredible weekend. the weather was perfect, and our days included homemade pizza, the driving range, ice cream, yard work, and about as much time outside as we could handle. we had our windows open, and it was so great to be breathing that fresh air. spring has finally sprung! we took the short guy outside to see what he thought about grass and to take some photos to mark his seven months. he’s sitting up really well now and is cutting another tooth (i think that’s the reason for all the non-sleep last week). his new trick is clapping, and we must be great parents because we’re getting applause right and left.
i’ll post more later, but here’s one of my favorites from the weekend.
if you’re like me, you want to have hair that looks nice, but not too fixed. if you’re like me, you also have no idea how to get there. recently, i stumbled onto these tutorials on b. jones style blog, and it has been kind of fun to experiment with my own do. she calls hair “your cheapest accessory”, and i love that she views it as part of your look. she has some everyday ideas and some for more dressed up occasions. click here to get to her tutorials (videos, which make it super easy!), and then click newer entries to thumb through them. hope you’ll try something fun with your cheapest accessory this weekend.

well, my sweet sweet child has decided not to sleep yet again, and i have been up since 4.30. surprisingly, i don’t feel as if i’ve been hit by a truck (yet), and i’ve kind of enjoyed the quiet time. my dad did this when i was a kid (and still does really) – up before everyone else in the house – sometimes for hours. now i understand – it’s the calm before the storm.
once again this week, i’m looking toward the sky, and enjoying the sunrise – a beautiful, but often unappreciated time by me – since i’m usually checking out the backs of my eyelids. but looking at the sky this morning, i’m seeing pink and orange against the clear blue sky – a refreshing way to start the day. a few things in honor of the colors of the morning…

you might think that it’s all rainbows and marshmallows around here, but let me be the first to tell you that it’s not. sunday was a rough night – the short guy was up about every 90 minutes – so yesterday i was not feeling too fabulous. that said, my outfit consisted of leggings covered in dog hair and a t-shirt from 1986, topped off with an off-kilter ponytail and glasses. i’m sure my husband loved coming home to that. my mom tried to get me to take a picture, but i thought i’d spare you – i think the mental image is enough. but today is a better day! beckett slept so much better last night, and i’m a much happier mama.
i was watching the barefoot contessa in my stupor yesterday, and she made peanut butter and jelly bars – hello! i decided to get my hands dirty during nap time today using this recipe. i added about an extra 1/4 cup of sugar to the dough, and i think i’d add more jelly next time, (this is not a lo-cal treat, so why not, right?) but they are still so so good. an indulgent treat that harks back to childhood – doesn’t get much better.
i have always loved looking at the sky. i can remember finding shapes in the clouds on long car trips as a kid, and sunset is one of my favorite times – those oranges and pinks can be amazing. well, i was reading jenny’s blog last week, and she posted about the cloud photography in amber’s home. it really caught my attention – well, her whole breakfast nook is amazing! – and ever since, i’ve found myself looking up.
{love love love!}
i caught a few of my own photos of the clouds over the weekend, and i think i might try to create a similar project.
and a little eye candy…

i am really, really ready for it to warm up around here. we have been teased with 70-degree weather a few times in the last month, but i want it to stick around. it’s another gray and cool day here, so i’m daydreaming about green things and getting outside as soon as we can. here are a few things on my wish list for spring.
top row (l to r):
chairs – i would like to curl up in this very setting with my stack of magazines
dress – this is screaming garden party to me
ring – i would wear this every single day
glasses – picturing these filled with pink lemondade
i wasn’t in the mood to make an event of dinner so i threw together taco soup. this is a go-to recipe when i’m not feeling creative, and we love it in this house. i hope we’re enjoying a few of our last cold days here in kc, and i’ll happily table my favorite soup recipe until the fall.

if you’re wondering where i’ve been (all three of you) i’ve been in denver celebrating my brother’s marriage to the lovely lindsey. we had a great time and cried tears of joy every single day we were there. the short guy did great on the drive, which i was worried about, and we are all trying to recover from a fabulously busy weekend.
