sharing a secret {fleur de sel}

we all know that sweet + salty is a darn good match.  well, recently, i had the idea to add a special little touch to a batch of chocolate chip cookies that i baked.  i topped them with a light sprinkling of fleur de sel, a lighter tasting salt that is a great compliment to sweets {you may have heard of fleur de sel caramels?}.  it lends the perfect salty bite to keep a it from being too sweet, and it takes your regular ol’ chocolate chip cookie up a notch.

  1. Cara, Nancy offered a cookie to us when we were at her home and I have to tell you these are the best chocolate chip cookies I have ever eaten. I am not much of a chocolate chip cookie fan because they are too sweet but these were great.

  2. Sounds yummy! Did you sprinkle on the fleur de sel before you baked them, or when they came out of the oven? Also, can I buy the salt at a grocery store?

    1. i put the fleur de sel on before baking so it sticks a little. i’ve seen it at our hy-vee before, and i’m sure yours would have it too. it’s with a bunch of other specialty salts close to the meat section.
